We are saddened to hear that Sogann, the sire of Grid Iron Maiden, has passed away at the age of seven after an accident at Norton Grove Stud last month.
Our thoughts go out to all those who knew and cared for him.
As the owners of Grid Iron Maiden, we know firsthand the potential that Sogann possessed as a stallion. Bred in partnership by Al Shaqab Racing from the Royal Academy mare Rumored, Sogann was from Frankel’s third crop and a half-brother to dual Group 1 juvenile winner Dabirsim. It was no surprise that he commanded a price of €550,000 when he was offered at the Arqana August Yearling Sale in 2017.
Unfortunately, Sogann was plagued by injury throughout his life, preventing him from ever making it to the racecourse. Nevertheless, his potential was reflected in his pedigree, and we are proud to have Grid Iron Maiden sired by him. We believe that Sogann’s legacy will live on through his offspring, including Grid Iron Maiden.
Trainers such as Charlie Johnston, Brian Ellison, Alan Brown, and Ruth Carr have two-year-olds by Sogann, and we look forward to seeing his first crop of runners hit the track this year.
We are grateful to have a filly by Sogann and are deeply saddened by his passing. Our attention now turns to the future, as we prepare for the upcoming racing season with Grid Iron Maiden.
